Mini-14 Light Weight Gun Barrel Stabilizer Installation Instructions |
(US Patent 5794374)
The Light Weight Gun Barrel Stabilizer consists of three parts: the barrel adapter identified by the presence of external threads, the retaining nut identified by internal threads, and the stabilizer body including black carbon fiber section.
1. Remove the front sight retaining pin using a drift punch.
2. Remove the front sight from the gun barrel. photo
3. Completely remove any dirt, oil, grease or other residue from the forward two inches of the gun barrel outside surface. Automotive brake cleaner is normally effective for this purpose.
4. Assemble the barrel adapter and retaining nut hand tight onto the stabilizer body. Trial fit the Gun Barrel Stabilizer assembly flush to the rifle muzzle. Ensure that the Gun Barrel Stabilizer can be positioned so that no part of it comes in contact with the gas block or any other Mini- 14 component behind the forward two inches of gun barrel. Minor grinding of the Gun Barrel Stabilizer may be necessary to achieve a minimum clearance of .020" in the unlikely event that an interference results.
Note: The mating surfaces on the barrel adapter and gun barrel must be completely clean and dry before assembly using Loctite.
5. Disassemble the barrel adapter and retaining nut from the stabilizer body. Using the supplied Loctite RC 609, apply adhesive to the mating surfaces on the barrel and barrel adapter.
6. Install the barrel adapter onto the gun barrel flush with the muzzle using a twisting motion. Allow the Loctite to cure for 24 hours at room temperature before attempting assembly of the stabilizer body and retaining nut to the rifle.
Note: All residual Loctite must be removed from the outside of the barrel adapter prior to installation of the stabilizer body and retaining nut.
7. Position the stabilizer body onto the barrel adapter so that no part of the Gun Barrel Stabilizer comes in contact with the gas block or any other Mini- 14 component behind the forward two inches of gun barrel. A minimum clearance of .020" must be maintained.
8. Lightly lubricate threads with high quality gun oil. Install and tighten the retaining nut to 13 ft-lbs. of torque using the supplied spanner wrench. Ensure that no part of the Gun Barrel Stabilizer comes in contact with the gas block or any other Mini- 14 component behind the forward two inches of gun barrel. A minimum clearance of .020" must be maintained.
Note: The barrel adapter may be removed from the gun barrel by heating it with a propane torch.
DO NOT USE ANY HIGHER TEMPERATURE HEAT SOURCE!
